Chesa Studio/Where we work
Regions
We work the four regions as one practice because our clients live across them. A family with a Greenwich Shingle Style and a chasa above Zuoz expects the same hand at the door of each. The vocabulary changes, the standard does not. In Connecticut we lay lichen-stained fieldstone in lime mortar and detail twelve-over-twelve sash so a new house reads as inherited from the first winter. In the Engadin we work in arve and larch, sgraffito and lime, with kachelofen at the heart of the stube. In Italy and Provence we mix cocciopesto, set Impruneta cotto and Salernes tomettes, and let chestnut beams hold the ceiling the way they have for four hundred years. The drawings move between offices in New York and Samedan. The named workshops, the spec sheets, and the expectation that the house will outlive its first owners stay constant.
